• Sorting and scanning: organizing packages and checking them for accuracy and damage.
• Goods processing: moving and preparing shipments for transport using tools like hand pallet trucks.
• Maintaining safety: keeping your workspace clean and reporting any irregularities to your team leader.
• Staying active: performing physical tasks throughout your shift in a fast-paced environment.

What does the job involve? 

You will be loading and unloading trucks, checking packages for damage, and sorting them to the correct locations in the depot. 

What are the shift times? 

Morning shift: 04:00 - 10:00 / 04:00 – 12:00 

Afternoon/day shift: 10:00 - 19:00 

Night shift: 20:00 - 04:30 / 21:00 – 06.00 (limited spots available) 

How many days do I need to work? 

Minimum 2 days per week. You can work more if you want. 

Can I change my availability each week? 

Yes! You can adjust your availability every week through an app. If one week you can work 2 days and the next week 4 days, that is completely fine. 

Can I combine this with school? 

Absolutely. Many of our workers are students. You set your availability around your school schedule. 

Is the work physically demanding? 

Yes, you will be lifting packages up to 25 kg. Packages heavier than 25 kg are always lifted together with a colleague. 

Do I need my own transport? 

Yes, especially for the morning shift (04:00 start). Public transport does not run that early. A bike or car is needed. 

Do I need to be 18? 

Yes, you must be at least 18 years old. 

Where are the locations? 

GLS has depots in Utrecht, Drachten, Zwolle, and Enschede. 

Can I also do delivery instead of warehouse work? 

No, this vacancy is specifically for work in the depot/warehouse, not for package delivery. 

What happens after this conversation? 

After the intake, we schedule a tour at the GLS location so you can see what the work looks like. The tour takes about 30-45 minutes. After that, you can decide if it is the right fit for you and we can get you started. 

Do I need to speak Dutch or English?  

Yes, you need basic Dutch or English to work safely.  

Are there shift allowances?  

Yes: - 20:00 – 00:00: +8.75% - 00:00 – 05:00: +11.25%  

Can I take holidays?  

Yes, as long as you inform us in advance.  

Is this a temporary or long-term job?  

This is a long-term position.  

Are there growth opportunities?  

Yes, you can obtain a forklift certificate.  

What is the work environment like?  

You work in a warehouse where it can be cold, noisy and windy due to open doors.  

Are there any risks?  

Yes, the work is physically demanding and can cause muscle or back strain.  

Can I travel by public transport?  

Yes, but after night shifts you may need to wait before you can travel home.

Do I need to have a work permit?  

You need a work permit to work with GLS. If you don't have a work permit, Start People doesn't apply for work permits.

This is warehouse work (sorting, loading, heavy lifting), not a delivery/driving role. Many applicants confuse the two. 

The role involves heavy lifting and standing for the full shift, every shift, in a cold or partially outdoor environment. This isn't occasional — it's the daily reality. The concern is whether they can sustain this long-term, not just for a trial day. 

Public transport is not available at the start of the morning shift or the end of the night shift. If a candidate wants morning or night shifts and does not have their own transport, probe how they plan to get to/from work consistently. 

There is no weekend work — candidates must be available on weekdays only. 

Candidates must be available for at least 2 days per week. 

If they have other jobs or commitments, find out whether scheduling conflicts are likely. 

Students are welcome, provided their class schedule genuinely fits the shifts they're requesting (verify — don't just take their word) and they can commit to at least 2 weekdays per week.
