Contracts Coordinator


The Contract Coordinator's role is to draft spot and term contracts in close liaison with the unit's Commercial Advisors for the benefit of STR's primary stakeholders, its traders and deal makers. Generating contracts with the FED contract generation system, the Contracts Coordinators ensure all contracts for sales and purchases are drafted (or responded to) completely and unambiguously before dispatching/reverting to counterparties.
The Contract Coordinators also follow up the deals post-dispatch to ensure that contract confirmations are sent and received, correspondence concerning the contract is dealt with in a timely manner, and the terms of the deal are fully recorded in the deal capture system (FED) and the written contract. If necessary they respond to the counterparty directly or seek advice from the trader/deal maker or the Commercial Advisors.
They are responsible for the maintenance of the complete electronic deal record within FED incorporating each contract document including amendments and a record of the appropriate authorities obtained.
They review and, if necessary, check the use of non-standard wording in contracts with the Commercial Advisors (with whom they will work very closely) to assess the wider implications of deviating from standard contracts whilst atttempting to balance the ability of the traders to be customer responsive.
They also handle contract queries with 3rd parties on behalf of the trading floor where appropriate.


The successful applicant will ideally have operational experience in crude, products, LPG trading, shipping or finance and/or legal contracts, and although functional experience is not essential as full training will be provided, enthusiasm and the ability to work quickly without compromising attention to detail are vital. The ability to work under pressure, prioritise correctly and maintain a flexible attitude are also crucial as the trading environment is fast-paced and can change rapidly. The latter requirement is particularly important.
There will be a significant degree of customer contact (internally and with other parts of the STn as well as with 3rd parties) which will require proven interpersonal, networking and negotiation skills as well as the ability to work effectively within a team both within the STR Contracts Unit and globally. A flexible teamworking attitude and ability to negotiate and reach compromises regarding workload is required.
English is the primary language for this position, so fluent English skills (both verbal and written) is a must as the successful candidate will be expected to revise and draft contracts in English. A candidate who also has a proven ability to understand and manage different types of software would be a plus.
Although some affinity or background with/in legal environment would be appreciated, it is not a pre-requisite of a successful candidate.
